The Glowworms Leadership Project is a 6-week series of workshops that introduces students to leadership concepts and guides them through exercises focused on developing specific leadership skills. Students then apply these skills to a group community service project which they develop and implement.
Students participate in workshops that explore topics such as communication, organization, motivation, ethics, management, self-confidence, and teamwork. Lessons and exercises are designed to help students develop skills in these areas and to create educational opportunities that are less accessible through their regular coursework. The project's aim is to create opportunities for students to explore their strengths and weaknesses and to improve skills essential to effective leadership, educational success, and future careers. Workshops foster critical thinking, cooperation, conflict-resolution and other leadership traits essential to student development. The lessons culminate in a student-led community service project in which students apply the skills that they developed throughout the workshops. The Glowworms Leadership Project launched in April 2005 at Ella Hill Hutch Community Center.
